Cozad Community Health System Donates to Cozad High School

The Cozad Community Health System supports the Cozad community and the future generations. The Health System has partnered with Cozad High School to bring Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Medication Aide courses to high school students in Cozad.

This $5,000 donation, from the Cozad Community Health System, allows students to participate in the courses free of charge. The curriculum comes from Central Community College and the classes are taught by Lori Ann Scroggin, LPN, who works at Central Plains Home Health and Hospice. Scroggin has been certified by the state of Nebraska to teach both of these classes.

“These classes give students an enhanced classroom experience,” explained Scroggin. The classroom, in the ESU 10 building in Cozad, is set up like a nursing home providing students with life-like experiences. Students are getting hands-on learning with actual equipment that is used in nursing and are given direction to practice skills on each other. Robert Dyer, PT, DPT, OCS, WCC, at Cozad Community Physical Therapy, has been certified by the state of Nebraska to come in and teach the Physical Therapy section of the CNA class. After students have completed the class, they take the state tests to become certified and on the state registry.

Scroggin enjoys teaching these classes and loves hearing about the exciting things that her students are experiencing after they have participated in her classes. These classes are opening many doors for students for summer jobs and working while they are going to school. This collaboration with the Cozad Community Health System, Cozad High School, Central Community College, and the Cozad community is something to be proud of.
