Two-time Cancer Survivor
Thursday, June 9, 2022
“In October 2008, after having my annual mammogram done at Cozad Community Hospital, I received word from my provider that I needed further testing. Two months later I had a “right breast-partial mastectomy” at CHI-Good Samaritan, as well as eight weeks of radiation treatment. I was just 67 years old.
Fast forward 10 years. Once again after having my annual mammogram, I received a call saying more testing was necessary, so I had an ultrasound followed by a biopsy. The biopsy was sent to Mayo Clinic where it was determined I had, “Bilateral Triple Negative” cancer which is a very fast-growing cancer. I also found out that I was positive for the BRAC1 gene which then required all my family members to be tested. Two family members were also positive for the BRAC1 gene.
There is no doubt in my mind that Cozad Community Health System saved my life. The mammograms, the early detection, the further testing, all helped me beat cancer. And Kristi Follmer at the Cozad Medical Clinic, I absolutely love her. She has been my provider since 2018 and I trust her with my life.
I have been cancer FREE for almost four years now but continue to closely monitor my health. The fear that the cancer might come back is always there, but I am here and enjoying every single day with my husband of 64 years, our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids!”
