Cozad Community Speciality Clinic Highlights Orthopedic Expertise of Dr. Lukens

Feb 27, 2025   |   Alexys Kersenbrock , CCHS Marketing Assistant

The Cozad Community Specialty Clinic is proud to highlight the contributions of Dr. Scott Lukens, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who has been an integral part of the clinic’s team of specialists with established patient relationships. Dr. Lukens brings exceptional expertise in general orthopedics, hand and wrist surgery, fracture care, and arthroscopic procedures, ensuring that residents of the region receive advanced care close to home. Dr. Lukens sees patients in Cozad every Monday.

Dr. Lukens joined the clinic team from Central Nebraska Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, where he continues to serve patients with the same dedication and skill. Raised in the Denver metropolitan area, Dr. Lukens pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry minor at Brigham Young University before earning his medical degree at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Elizabeth Jones, Director of Outpatient Services, shares, “Dr. Lukens is very talented in diagnosing conditions and providing the care needed to not only treat the problem, but to alleviate symptoms as much as possible until a definitive solution can be reached.”

With a particular focus on hand and wrist conditions, Dr. Lukens employs innovative surgical techniques that minimize anesthesia exposure and promote quicker recovery. His expertise allows him to address even the most complex cases of hand pain, deformity, and dysfunction, improving patients’ quality of life.

Elizabeth Jones emphasizes the importance of having local access to specialists like Dr. Lukens: “Living so far from major hospitals, it is very important to have access to specialists like Dr. Lukens. Especially in the winter when roads and walkways are slick and travel is difficult, it is important to have the opportunity to see an orthopedist on a weekly basis here in the local community.”

The Cozad Community Specialty Clinic offers a broad range of medical services, including care for bone and joint health, heart and kidney conditions, cancer, lung and breathing disorders, foot and ankle issues, urinary and men’s health, chronic pain relief, and general surgical services.

Having Dr. Lukens as part of the team has strengthened the clinic’s ability to provide specialized orthopedic care, ensuring that patients can access high-quality treatment without traveling far from home.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Lukens enjoys hiking, cycling, and camping. He and his wife, Natalie, are raising their three children in Nebraska and are actively involved in the community.

The Cozad Community Specialty Clinic remains committed to providing local residents with access to expert care, and Dr. Lukens’ ongoing contributions exemplify that mission.
