A Healthy Start to Spring

Mar 13, 2025   |   Karlie Rose Buss , CCHS Marketing & Communications Director

As the days grow longer and the first hints of spring emerge, we welcome a season of renewal, growth, and fresh beginnings. With the arrival of daylight saving time and the official start of spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to focus on refreshing our health and wellness routines.

Longer Days, Brighter Moods! Take full advantage of the benefits that come with the extra hour of daylight. Sunlight exposure helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle, boosts vitamin D levels, and can improve mood by increasing serotonin, the “feel-good” hormone. If the winter months left you feeling sluggish, take advantage of the extended daylight by spending time outdoors, going for a walk, or simply soaking in the sunshine.

As you start your Spring cleaning routine, remember it isn’t just for your home. It’s also a great time to declutter bad habits and refresh your health. Start by checking in on your wellness routine:

Prioritize Sleep - The time change can throw off sleep schedules, so aim for consistent bedtimes and minimize screen time before bed.

Hydrate and Nourish - Warmer weather calls for staying hydrated and incorporating fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables into meals.

Get Moving - Whether it’s a walk at the park, a bike ride, or outdoor gardening, increased physical activity boosts overall well-being.

Allergy Season is Blooming. As trees bud and flowers bloom, allergy season makes its return. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, now is the time to prepare. Keep windows closed during high pollen days, wash clothes after being outside, and talk to your healthcare provider about the best treatment options. Cozad Community Health System is here to help you manage seasonal allergies and breathe easy this spring.

Spring is also a great time to catch up on wellness checks and preventive care. Consider scheduling a physical exam, updating vaccinations, or getting a routine health screening. Taking these proactive steps ensures you’re feeling your best as you head into the warmer months.

As we “spring forward” into the new season, embrace the changes with renewed energy and a focus on well-being. Cozad Community Health System is here to support your health every step of the way. Wishing you a happy and healthy start to spring!
