Celebrating National Rural Health Day with Cozad Community Health System

Nov 21, 2024   |   Karlie Rose Buss, CCHS Marketing & Communications Director

Each November, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) designates the third Thursday as National Rural Health Day (NRHD). This special day shines a light on the “Power of Rural” and the role rural healthcare plays in addressing the unique needs of rural communities.

Cozad Community Health System (CCHS) is proud to serve Cozad and surrounding rural communities, dedicated to providing quality healthcare that meets the needs of patients. CCHS is a healthcare system that stands out not only because of the care provided but because of our commitment to the community.

“The first essential service that our hospital provides is emergency care,” says Matt Burkholder, Chairman of the Hospital Board of Directors. “We have a fully staffed ER so, along with our amazing volunteer fire department, if you put out a call for help, you can be in the emergency room within minutes, surrounded by the tools and skills to evaluate you and get you the care you need.”

CCHS also offers a wide range of services to support the community’s healthcare needs throughout every stage of life. “We have a team of family practitioners who will build relationships with you and be there with you to manage your health care needs throughout your life as you and your family grow,” Burkholder continues. “Additionally, we have teams that can provide you with treatment, whether physical therapy, cardiac or pulmonary rehab, infusion services, home health, or inpatient care. These are conveniently located here in Cozad without the expense, stress, or time of traveling out of town.”

When you see your physical therapist cheering at the same game or run into the ER nurse at the grocery store, you experience the kind of close-knit, trusted care that makes rural health special. “I am most proud of the staff that we have at CCHS,” Burkholder shares. “We have a group of extremely dedicated and talented people that are here every day, day and night, to care for the needs of everyone in our community. They spend their lives working to heal and strengthen those around them.”

Rural means not just healthcare providers but neighbors, friends, and supporters. “Our employees are also a huge part of the life of our town, striving to make it special, and participating along with their families in all of the events and celebrations,” Burkholder adds.

Our community’s size doesn’t mean we can’t deliver high-quality care. Rural living offers a lifestyle many people seek today, and CCHS disproves the notion that being small limits our potential. We attract and retain top talent, ensuring that we offer not only compassionate but also skilled, patient-centered care.

Our senior leadership team is committed to making improvements that reflect our new vision statement: “To Improve the Health and Well-Being of the Communities We Serve, Demonstrating Compassionate Patient-Centered Care.” When you analyze and break that down, it’s a powerful statement of serving not just Cozad but the surrounding rural areas with necessary services for their health as well as looking out for their overall well-being, keeping the patient at the center of it all.

The future of CCHS is bright and filled with progressive changes to meet the evolving needs of the area. From upcoming facility upgrades to a deeper focus on patient-centered practices, these changes are designed to keep us relevant, accessible, and responsive to you. As the new communications director, I am excited to build a stronger connection between CCHS and the community. My mission is to keep you informed, engaged, and connected with your local healthcare system.

Supporting local healthcare is crucial to maintain this valuable resource. When you choose CCHS, you’re investing in the continued strength of the healthcare system, local employment and economic stability.

As we celebrate National Rural Health Day, we are reminded of the strength, potential and resilience of rural health systems like CCHS. Continue choosing local healthcare to keep these benefits close to home and make wellness a priority to keep our rural community healthy and thriving.
