Mental well-being is a crucial component of overall health, and addressing it can make a significant difference in a person’s quality of life. During Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month, we at Cozad Community Health System want to emphasize the importance of mental health support and the resources available to our community. We recognize that emotional pain, loss, and caregiving can weigh heavily on individuals, and that’s why we offer dedicated support groups designed to provide relief, understanding, and a sense of community.
Grief Support Group: Healing Together
The loss of a loved one can be one of the most challenging experiences a person faces. Grief can manifest in many ways, affecting not just emotional well-being but also physical health. It’s important to have a space where those who are grieving can openly express their feelings, share their experiences, and find comfort among others who understand their journey.
CCHS’s Grief Support Group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at Central Plains Home Health and Hospice. This group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one, whether recently or in the past. The group provides a compassionate environment where participants can discuss their feelings, learn coping strategies, and build connections with others who are navigating similar experiences.
Alzheimer’s Support Group: Caring for the Caregivers
Caregivers play a vital role in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease, but the demands of caregiving can take a toll on their mental and physical health. Often, caregivers may feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to manage the emotional and practical challenges they face. CCHS recognizes the importance of supporting these individuals, who give so much of themselves to care for their loved ones.
The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at Meadowlark Pointe. This group is specifically designed for caregivers of loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. It provides a space for caregivers to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and receive support from others who understand the complexities of caregiving. To further ease the burden, Meadowlark Pointe offers respite care for loved ones during the support group sessions at no charge. This service ensures that caregivers can attend the group and focus on their own well-being, knowing their loved ones are in good hands.
